Sir Alan Beith MP has condemned the Government's decision to close Alnwick's Tax Office.

Confirmation that the tax office in Alnwick will close within the next year is a bitter blow, according to local MP Sir Alan Beith.

Sir Alan has received a letter from the Treasury minister responsible for the decision explaining the decision.

Reacting to the announcement, Sir Alan said:

"Alnwick, along with 129 other towns, is losing its Tax Office and the loss of jobs like these in small communities is a bitter blow and a bad policy.

"The Minister claims that face-to-face advice for taxpayers will still be available in Alnwick but has given no indication yet of how this is to be done."
