Lib Dems put £850,000 into Berwick Leisure Centre

7.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 16th Jul 2009

Thanks to the Liberal Democrats at County Hall, nearly £1 million is to be invested in the Swan Centre for Leisure in Berwick upon Tweed.

Local councillors Isabel Hunter and Jim Smith welcomed this investment in the centre which will mean better facilities and a wider range of activities can be offered.

And Cllr Dougie Watkin also backed the plan. After the meeting he said:

"I'm absolutely delighted we got this proposal through although it was difficult - we could not understand the opposition as it is obviously an excellent opportunity for the people in and around Berwick who use the centre and a very good deal for the Council."
