Beith welcomes assurance on future of fire service2.15.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 12th Jun 2009 Local Liberal Democrat MP Sir Alan Beith has moved to allay constituents' fears of a potential reduction in fire cover for Alnwick. Sir Alan has been assured that far from removing resources from any of the stations in the Berwick-upon-Tweed constituency, Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service are proposing major capital improvements at both Berwick and Alnwick Fire Stations. This will involve a total rebuild to provide stations that are community focused and fit for purpose. Sir Alan said: "I am very glad to have this reassurance from the Chief Fire Officer and look forward to learning more about the developments at Alnwick and Berwick. Having seen the excellent partnership between the fire service and Sure Start in Wooler, I am pleased to hear that community involvement is also part of their plans." Sir Alan contacted the Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service after being contacted by worried constituents who had heard suggestions that the number of fire appliances at Alnwick was to be reduced.
