Assurances given on local hospitals under new emergency care plans, says Beith

4.00.00pm GMT Sun 15th Feb 2009

Sir Alan Beith MP has met senior executives to hear details of a new specialist emergency care hospital which is to serve Northumberland.

He said

"I have had discussions with the trust to make sure that the proposed new facilities do not lead to any reduction in services at Berwick or Alnwick and I have been given assurances on that.

"The plans do offer the prospect of high quality consultant-led emergency care services in a location which is no more difficult to reach than the Wansbeck Hospital, for much of Northumberland."
