Alan Beith MP's Website Nominated for National Award3.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 23rd Sep 2008 Berwick MP Sir Alan Beith's website, www.alanbeith.org.uk has been nominated for an award in the final of the 2008 British Computer Society MP Website Awards. Sir Alan Beith's website is a useful way of communicating with constituents and people from further afield, as well as giving people another means of raising problems and issues, and the MP is delighted that the site has been nominated for an award. Alan Beith said "Thousands of people have visited the site since the start of 2008 and I really hope that people are finding the information they want on the website. We are getting quite a number of people making contact through the website, to ask for help with a problem or to raise an issue that they want me to know about, and I'm very pleased indeed that the work that has gone into the website is being recognised in this way." The British Computing Society has announced that Sir Alan Beith's website will go through to the final of their MP Website competition, taking place on 19 November 2008. Judges will be looking for MP's websites that successfully engage and excite, yet usefully inform with honourable purpose. In addition, judging criteria will take into account ease of navigation, accessibility and effective use of modern media techniques such as blogs, pod or video casts and instant messaging. Awards will be made in three categories: design, engagement and accessibility. Alan Beith's website has been shortlisted in the engagement category. Judges include representatives of the British Computer Society and political journalists from The Times and The Spectator. This year's awards, judged by leading political pundits and media commentators, including journalists from news magazines The Week, The First Post and politics.co.uk all of which support the Awards, will also take into account the public's own views of their respective constituency MP's website.
