Berwick Advertiser's 200 years of service marked by MPs

10.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 10th Jun 2008

A motion congratulating the Berwick Advertiser on its 200 years of service as a local newspaper has been tabled by Berwick Liberal Democrat MP, Alan Beith, with support from neighbouring Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk Liberal Democrat MP, Michael Moore.

The motion says:

"That this House congratulates the Berwick Advertiser on its 200th Anniversary of service as a local newspaper for the Berwick area; further recognises the contribution of the Tweeddale Press newspapers to the life of communities throughout North Northumberland and the Borders; and draws attention to the vital role of local weekly newspapers and their on-line services at a time when many national media trivialise or ignore the democratic process."
