Beith - Brown shows no vision for North East

1.00.00pm GMT Tue 6th Nov 2007

Liberal Democrat MP for Berwick, Alan Beith, has lambasted Gordon Brown's first Queen's Speech saying that it shows no vision for the North East and is nothing more than 'vague promises' as far as tackling the region's housing crisis is concerned.

The Queen's Speech laid out 29 bills to be put to Parliament in the 2007/8 session, but Alan Beith has joined many other Lib Dems is declaring the Speech empty of substance and devoid of new initiatives.

Commenting on the speech, Alan Beith said:

"There is no vision for the North in this Queen's Speech.

"You will look in vain for the measures that would really help the North, such as a "Barnett Formula" for the region, investment in transport and something other than vague promises on affordable housing."
