Beith welcomes easing of movement restrictions for farm animals in north east

Liberal Democrat MP for Berwick Alan Beith has welcomed the news that animals can now be moved between farms, subject to high levels of biosecurity.

Speaking after the announcement from DEFRA, Mr Beith said

"This is good news for our farmers who have been severely affected by the movement bans on livestock. Although marts still cannot be held, at least sales between farms can be arranged and carried out.

"I have been meeting farmers on my mobile surgery tour and hearing about the effect the latest disease outbreaks have been having on people's lives. Farmers and their families are facing financial hardship, the threat of disease and are living in very anxious times. I will continue to campaign for advances from the Single Farm Payment to help farmers through this period."
