Alan Beith MP backs local schools in singing to resolve conflict
11.30.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 6th Jun 2006
Alan Beith MP is urging local schools to take part in a project that aims to unite the UK's children through singing.
The project, Song for Peace, has been set up by the teachers' union NASUWT, the charity Youth music and the organisation Peace One Day. It encourages schools across the UK to sing a song for peace - No Wars Will Stop Us Singing - on the United Nations International Day of Peace, 21 September 2006.
Alan Beith MP said
"This innovative project is a great opportunity for everyone to focus on trying to resolve conflict - within the family, at school, in the community and across the world.
"Engaging schools in singing to mark the International Day of Peace will not only keep this message alive throughout the year but will send out a powerful message about young people working in harmony.
"Music is one of the most effective ways to engage children and young people on important issues. I am delighted to be involved in a campaign that uses music as a means to spread the important messages surrounding young people uniting in the face of conflict and working together to achieve peace."
