Beith warns of Carbon Monoxide Danger

12.00.00am GMT Wed 28th Dec 2005

Alan Beith. MP today asked his constituents to protect themselves and their families by making a New Year's Resolution to play it safe with gas in 2006.

Alan said:

"I am pleased to back the CORGI campaign to ensure that people have their gas appliances regularly maintained by a CORGI-registered technician. Carbon monoxide poisoning is entirely preventable but can be a silent killer. I call on all my constituents to have their gas appliances checked by a CORGI-registered installer in 2006.

"Carbon monoxide detectors are also available from hardware stores and can alert you to a build-up of lethal carbon dioxide. Conventional smoke detectors cannot tell you if there is a build-up of carbon monoxide in your home."

CORGI and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents will launch an advertising campaign in January 2006, to remind people of the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning in the home.
