Beith speaks on Kennedy resignation12.00.00am GMT Fri 6th Jan 2006
Following Charles Kennedy's resignation as leader of the Liberal Democrats shortly after 3pm today, Alan Beith, MP for Berwick-upon-Tweed, said: "Charles Kennedy has made the right decision. He has done a superb job as party leader, but he now needs time and space to deal with his own problem, and the party needs to move on to make the most of the opportunities which Charles has helped create. "I believe that we will grow further under a new leader and that Charles Kennedy will be back in front-line politics in the near future."
